ASA - Amateur Swimming Association - English national governing body for swimming, diving, water polo, open water, and synchronised swimming - Established in 1869.
ASC - Amateur Swimming Club - ASA affiliated swimming club managed through a National/Regional/County structure - over 1,200 throughout the UK.
BAGCAT - British Age Group CATegories - Points system intended to develop ability across a range of events (Girls: 9-13yrs, Boys: 9-14yrs) - For full explanation, see FAQ's.
DNC - Did Not Compete.
DNF - Did Not Finish.
DQ - Disqualification - See (FAQ > Disqualification Codes) for a list of reasons.
HDW - Heat Declared Winner - This effectively means there are no finals. For example if there are 30 swimmers competing in a 50 metre freestyle race the winner will be the swimmer with the fastest time regardless if the swimmer swam in the first or last heat. At many meets including our Club Championships all the swimmers in a given event will swim in heats together regardless of age, starting usually with slowest in the first heat and the fastest in the last heat. This does not mean that the 9 year olds are competing against 16 year olds or older as once all the heats are swum the swimmers times are sorted into the individual age groups and winners decided accordingly.
