Chippenham synchro girls dominate County Championships
Chippenham synchro swimmers put in an excellent performance at the Wiltshire County Championships, with some outstanding individual efforts in a very well attended event at the Whitehorse Leisure Centre in Calne. The competition is divided into two parts – figures (synchro moves done individually) and routines (both duets and solos, performed to music). The competition is run by skill level not age, so the age range within each category can be several years.
In the novice figures, 11 year old Abbie Drummond repeated her success at the south west regional figures competition to take the gold, with Amelia Hall taking silver and Rachael Lawrence winning bronze. Stephanie Taylor won the skill 1 category, with Megan Gee taking the silver. Alice Johnston (14) won the skill 2 group in a close competition with team-mate Rebecca Platts. In skill 3, Georgie Scott-Green, at 13 the youngest in the category by nearly 4 years, impressed to take the silver. Emma Holloway (15) enjoyed a convincing victory in the skill 4 figures competition, also taking the gold with an excellent solo routine. 16 year old Issy Collings won the figures and solo routine at skill 5.
In the duets, Abbie Drummond partnered Amelia Hall to take gold in the novice category, with youngsters Zoe Drake and Chloe Makepeace putting in an impressive performance to take the silver. Megan Gee collected her second medal of the evening taking gold in the level 1 duets with Ellen Gaunt, with Stephanie Taylor and Eleanor Daniel awarded the bronze. In a very close skill 2 event, Alice Johnston and Jessica Brayley kept their nerve to win the gold, narrowly beating an exciting routine by Rebecca Platts and Tamla Berry.
Coach Janice Baker was delighted with the way the girls swam and supported each other. Thanks to all those parents who helped with the event.
Three of the club’s synchro swimmers are now back in intense training for the British Nationals in two weeks’ time. Georgie Scott-Green, Emma Holloway and Issy Collings are training hard as part of the Bristol Central synchro squads.

News from the synchro multi-regionals
Congratulations to the girls from the Chippenham synchro squad for coming second in the south west region and ninth overall in the under-19 team event in the southern multi-regional championships yesterday. Teams from all across the south of England competed in Surrey and the standard was high. The girls swam well, keeping their cool when the music stopped in the middle of their routine, necessitating a re-swim later. Well done to Alice Johnston, Jessica Brayley, Madeleine Gardener, Eleanor Daniel, Ellen Gaunt, Megan Gee, Rebecca Platts and Tamla Berry who all swam well and to Harriet Byrne, who was injured but gave valued poolside support.
Three Chippenham girls swam in Bristol teams and in the individual figures event. Issy Collings and Emma Holloway's 15-17 team won the SW region and multi-regional event. Issy came third in the regional figures and solo events. Emma came sixth in the regional figures event. Georgie Scott-Green's 13-14 team won both the regional and the multi-regional event and she came fourth in the regional figures. Well done to all the girls.

Issy Collings achieves highest synchro level
Congratulations to Issy Collings who passed her synchro skill 5 assessment, the highest level, in Portsmouth. The skills assessments are extremely difficult to pass and swimmers often have to retake the tests many times. Very few girls in the country have achieved level 5 and the club is extremely proud of Issy for her hard work and success.
