And become a qualified Level 1 swimming teacher

As an inclusive club, Chippenham ASC will support swimmers who want to give back to the club by volunteering to help.  

The Youth Volunteer Programme supports the club, the swimmer and the sport by:

  1. Expands the coaching team
  2. Young volunteers gain access to a free L1 swimming teaching qualification
  3. Develops a culture of reinvestment and support

Youth Volunteers

Any swimmer, aged 15 and above, swimming in the Performance Squad can apply and each year up to three swimmers will be taken onto the programme.

Successful applicants will agree with the Head Coach and Squad Coaches which sessions they will support and will be required to commit to at least ONE session per week for a minimum of 40 per year.

On completion of the 40 sessions, the Youth Volunteers will be enrolled on the next available L1 Swimming Assistant (Teacher) course, which is a qualification that will stay with them personally.

Once they have completed this course they will also have the opportunity, once they have completed 120 sessions to be enrolled on the L2 Swimming Swimming Teacher course.

The cost to successful applicants is only their time.

Junior Volunteers

Any swimmer, aged 12 and above can assist a coach on poolside which will help develop their skills in teaching and understand how sessions are run.  

When a Junior Volunteer has completed 50 sessions, they will be awarded a prestigious Chippenham ASC Silver Swimming Hat to reward them for their dedication.

Duke of Edinburgh Award

The club will also welcome those who are participating in their DoE award whether it be volunteering or sports leadership. Depending on their skills and qualification, this may involve assisting a coach or a regular coaching session. Those who are swimmers at the club completing their DoE would still be eligible to achieve their Chippenham ASC Silver Swimming Hat after 50 hours.
